Mitchel's mother, known publicly as Nightshade, is one of several people from the now-infamous Oakes family to turn to a life of crime. She ran away from home when she was still in high school and became involved with a domestic terrorist group, working as an assassin.
She eventually became the only member of her former crew to be caught, and agreed surrender peacefully in exchange for her newborn son's safety. She has yet to divulge the identity of the father, though a cryptic hint dropped during a visitation with Mitch suggests that he may be involved in hero work or law enforcement.
